Nicolas Darrot is French artist working with automata, robotics and new media.
The fragrances consist of a phosphorescent circular track, and a bipedal automaton inspired by the skeleton of a Tantalus bird, which the artist has noticed during one of his visits to the Gallery of Evolution at the Muséum d Natural history in Paris. Progressing on the track, while pushing a luminous ruler, the machine traces a pattern composed of a frame of hexagons gradually disappearing behind it. This pattern can evoke the interior of a hive, as well as the structure of organic molecules, many pheromones that make up the perfumes of the insect colony.
