Wolfson's 2014 work, Female Figure is an animatronic sculpture of a woman dressed in a negligee, thigh high vinyl boots and a green half witch mask, covered in dirt marks and scuffs.
The figure dances seductively, speaking in a male voice. Using facial recognition technology, she locks eyes with viewers through a mirror. The work addresses the violence of objectification.
Jordan Wolfson's piece (Female Figure) 2014 is an animatronic robot that dances in front of a large mirror, while at the same time seeking eye contact with the spectator.
The entire presentation could remind one of Wolfson’s singing robot sculpture (Female figure) 2014 (2014) Wolfson’s last foray into robotics, two years ago at this same space. And while the two works are quite different—the new “robot” is now being jerked around by a mechanical puppet master in the form of chains on pulleys, instead of relying on combustion from an internal motorized system—Wolfson admits that “it’s kind of an extension” of that show. = Colored Sculpture (2016)
